Tjintu Desert Band- Tjamuku Ngurra
About 18 months ago, I was invited out to Ross River about 45 mins from Alice Springs to participate in Bush Bands. It's a music camp, spread over 3-4 days to help Aboriginal bands from WA & NT with their craft and get some knowledge about the business side of things. The experience was incredible; the surrounding lands, the good will of the people on site and most inportantly, the sheer talents all the bands showcased. I was blown away by the musicianship and how much the music connected with the land. This was the real Australia and I had never seen anything like it. Tjintu Dessrt Band (pronounces Jin Too) was one of the acts that really stood out to me. They combine funk, rock reggae and dub-grooves, singing in their local language Luritja & also English. Jerry Zimran's vocal will transcend you to another universe. Do yourself a favour and check these guys and other NT/WA desert bands out.
